Penge
Penge is part of the London Borough of Bromley and is located south-east of Crystal Palace Park. The name of the area derives from an old Celtic word and suggests that some of the inhabitants might be of pure, native British contingent, which is rare since the Anglo-Saxon colonization.
For more than a thousand years Penge was a detached portion of Bettersea during 957. The land was inhabited mostly by gypsies who camped in the wood up until the 19th century when the construction of the canal brought light to areas like Penge and Anerley. Later a railway replaced the canal in Penge, but was briefly closed due to the limited number of passengers.
When the population of the area started to increase the church of St John Evangelist was brought up along with almshouses and other buildings on High Street which fascinate the eye.
